Color drift across a long presentation is subtler but genuinely damaging. When the same brand blue appears in three slightly different hex values across 30 slides — a common outcome of building slides across multiple sessions or pulling charts from different Excel files — it signals carelessness. Stakeholders may not consciously notice, but the cumulative effect erodes the professional authority of the work. Locking brand colors in a Slide Master or a shared theme file eliminates this entirely.
Underestimating the polish pass is another consistent trap. Alignment, consistent chart margins, uniform data label formatting, and standardized footer placement are details that individually take two minutes each and collectively take three or four hours across a full deck. That time is easy to cut when a deadline is close and the data work is done — but the visual inconsistency shows immediately to anyone seeing the deck for the first time.
