The Research Challenge
The media industry is one of the more fragmented markets to analyze. Small independent outlets, regional broadcasters, and large enterprise media groups each operate on different models, serve different audiences, and compete in different ways. When we were brought in to execute this account mapping and market research project, the challenge was not just gathering data — it was building a framework that could make sense of a highly varied landscape.
The client needed to understand where specific media organizations stood competitively, who their audiences were, and where opportunities existed for their product or service to gain traction. That required both analytical rigor and the ability to synthesize findings into something decision-makers could act on.
How We Structured the Work
Helion360 approached this in two integrated phases. The first was account mapping — profiling each media organization across a consistent set of dimensions including audience profile, content positioning, revenue structure, and competitive relationships. This gave us a reliable comparison layer across organizations that would otherwise be difficult to measure against each other.
The second phase was market research focused on the broader media landscape. We analyzed competitive dynamics, identified growth segments, and assessed where our client's offering had the strongest strategic fit. Rather than producing isolated data points, we built a connected narrative that linked individual account insights to broader market patterns.
All of this was then structured into an executive-style research report and a stakeholder-ready presentation. We used data visualization to make competitive positioning maps and trend analysis immediately readable, and formatted the full output for use in internal strategy sessions without additional preparation.
What We Delivered
The final package included detailed account profiles covering a wide range of media organizations across both the independent and enterprise segments. Each profile included competitive context and opportunity flags tied directly to the client's go-to-market goals.
The market research component identified several high-potential growth areas within the industry, each supported by data and explained in plain language. The accompanying presentation design ensured the findings were visually clear and structured for an executive audience.
Delivery was on schedule. The client walked away with a complete picture of the media market and a comprehensive research framework for strategic decision-making.
