The Research Challenge in Ireland's Agricultural Sector
Ireland's agricultural sector is not a single, unified market. It spans diverse farming types, regional practices, supply chain actors, and policy stakeholders — all of which needed to be accounted for in this research project. We were tasked with building a complete contact research framework from scratch and executing a full round of primary interviews, both by phone and in person.
The difficulty was twofold. First, identifying the right participants across such a varied sector required careful mapping rather than a generic outreach approach. Second, getting agricultural professionals to engage meaningfully in research conversations requires earned trust — something that cannot be rushed or automated.
Building the Contact Framework
Our team began by defining the participant profiles most relevant to the research objectives. We looked across farm operators, agri-input businesses, rural development advisors, cooperative representatives, and sector consultants. From there, we built a structured, tiered contact list that balanced geographic spread with professional relevance.
Each contact was verified and categorized before outreach began, which allowed us to move into the interview phase with a clean, reliable foundation rather than losing time on bad data mid-project.
Executing Interviews Across Two Channels
Helion360 managed interview execution across both phone and live formats, adapting the approach to each respondent type. We developed a consistent interview guide that supported structured data capture while remaining flexible enough for more in-depth conversations when participants were willing to go further.
Response tracking was maintained throughout — logging completion rates, flagging gaps, and ensuring all data was recorded in a format that would require no additional cleanup before analysis. This level of process discipline is what separates useful primary research from a collection of disconnected notes.
What the Project Delivered
By the close of the project, we had completed the full research cycle on schedule. The contact database was comprehensive and verified. Interview completion rates were high, and the qualitative data reflected genuine, substantive responses from across the sector.
