The Starting Point: An Incomplete Financial Model
When this project came to us, the client already had meaningful work done — a five-year Excel model with both a Profit and Loss statement and a cash flow statement in place. But without a balance sheet, the model was fundamentally incomplete. No serious financial review, investor conversation, or audit process can move forward without all three statements reconciling together.
The real complexity was not in building a balance sheet from scratch in isolation. It was in building one that connected precisely to the existing data — where retained earnings rolled forward correctly, working capital movements matched the cash flow, and every asset and liability line tied back to the P&L with no manual adjustments required.
Our Approach to the Integration
Before writing a single formula, we mapped the full structure of the existing model. We traced every line item through both statements to understand how the data flowed and where the balance sheet would need to anchor itself. This diagnostic step is something Helion360 treats as non-negotiable on financial modeling work — you cannot build reliable integrations without first understanding what is already there.
From that foundation, we constructed the balance sheet in line with GAAP standards, covering all five years. Assets, liabilities, and equity were structured into clearly labeled sections. Formula links were built to be direct and auditable — no hardcoded values, no workarounds. If the client updates revenue assumptions or adjusts a depreciation schedule, the balance sheet responds automatically.
What the Finished Model Delivered
The completed file is a clean, three-statement financial model where every period balances without exception. The balance sheet ties to both the income statement and the cash flow statement across all five years, with full transparency into how each figure is derived.
Beyond accuracy, the model was structured for usability. Input assumptions are clearly separated, formulas are consistent and readable, and section headers make navigation straightforward for any team member — not just the person who built it. The client can update figures, extend the model, or hand it to an auditor with confidence.
