The Starting Point: A Website Revamp Without an SEO Foundation
When this client came to us, they were mid-way through rebuilding their website with no clear keyword strategy in place. Their existing content had grown organically over time — some pages performed reasonably well, but most had no deliberate targeting. The bigger issue was that they had no visibility into what their competitors were doing, which meant they were optimizing in a vacuum.
We were brought in to change that before the revamp launched. The goal was straightforward: understand what the audience was searching for, assess how current content measured up, and map the gaps that needed to be filled.
Building the Research Framework
Our process started with Google Analytics to establish a baseline. We identified which pages were already pulling organic traffic and which had essentially no search presence. That data shaped the scope of the keyword research that followed.
Using SEMrush and Ahrefs, we conducted a full keyword analysis across the client's category — covering informational, navigational, and transactional search intent. We didn't just pull a list of high-volume terms. We evaluated each keyword for ranking difficulty, relevance to the client's actual offerings, and potential traffic value. The result was a tiered keyword map that made prioritization straightforward.
The competitive layer was just as important. We reviewed the top-ranking pages of direct competitors, identified the keyword clusters they dominated, and measured where the client's content had no presence at all. This became the foundation of the content gap analysis.
What the Report Covered
Helion360 delivered a detailed research report organized around three core outputs. The first was a prioritized keyword list — over 120 terms grouped by intent category, search volume, and difficulty tier. The second was a competitive benchmark that showed exactly how the client stacked up against the top three competitors on target terms. The third was a content gap map identifying more than 30 topic areas where competitors were capturing traffic and the client was absent entirely.
Each section of the report included specific, actionable guidance — not just data. We flagged which existing pages needed on-page optimization, which new content topics should be developed first, and where structural changes to the site architecture could support better crawlability and ranking.
