The Research Challenge
Finnish consumers approach savory snacks differently from broader European markets. Regional taste preferences, distinct retail behaviors, and a competitive landscape shaped by both local and international brands make this a market that rewards careful, ground-level research — not assumptions drawn from generalized data.
The client needed a complete picture: how consumers behave, what drives their purchases, how the market breaks down by segment, and where competitors are positioned. All of it needed to come from primary sources, not secondary reports. And it needed to be ready in two weeks.
Our Research Approach
Helion360 structured the project to run multiple workstreams in parallel. Survey design and distribution began immediately, targeted at Finnish consumers across relevant demographic groups. At the same time, we coordinated focus groups and conducted one-on-one interviews to capture the qualitative depth that surveys alone cannot provide.
The consumer research phase fed directly into our segmentation model, which grouped Finnish snack buyers by purchasing habits, flavor preferences, and retail channel behavior. The competitor analysis ran alongside this, mapping key players in the market by positioning, pricing, and product range.
Every data point collected was tied back to a specific research question, keeping the analysis focused and the final output actionable rather than exhaustive.
What We Delivered
The finished report covered all three pillars — consumer behavior, market segmentation, and competitive landscape — within the two-week deadline. Rather than presenting raw data, we translated findings into a market research presentation design built for decision-makers.
The market research report used data visualization to make complex patterns readable at a glance, with each section leading logically to the next. The client came away with a grounded understanding of where their product could compete, which segments to prioritize, and how the current competitive field was positioned.
The project confirmed something we've seen consistently across comprehensive market research operations: when primary research is properly scoped and executed with discipline, even a tight timeline doesn't have to compromise the quality of what gets delivered.
