The Research Challenge Across Three Jurisdictions
When a San Francisco legal tech startup needed court case research spanning County, State, and Federal levels, the scope of the work was immediately clear. This was not a single-database lookup — it required navigating multiple legal research platforms, managing large volumes of case data, and producing output that was accurate, well-cited, and immediately usable.
Their internal team had the legal context but not the research bandwidth. What they needed was a structured, experienced partner who could move through Westlaw, LexisNexis, and PACER with precision and return findings that held up under scrutiny.
How We Approached the Work
Helion360 began by establishing a clear jurisdictional research framework — separating County, State, and Federal case workflows so nothing crossed over or got misattributed. Each tier had its own retrieval process, citation standards, and document organization logic.
As documents were retrieved, we compiled them into executive-style reports that provided case summaries, court decisions, document references, and jurisdictional context in a format the team could read and act on without needing to dig back into the source databases. We also built out structured Excel trackers to help the startup manage ongoing case references efficiently across the full research scope.
Quality control was built into every stage. We cross-referenced retrieved documents against legal citation records throughout the process, not just at the end, to catch any gaps or inconsistencies before they reached the final report.
What We Delivered
The final deliverables included a complete set of multi-jurisdictional research reports with every requested case properly retrieved, cited, and organized. The Excel trackers gave the team a practical layer of case management on top of the written reports, reducing their dependency on repeated database queries for follow-up questions.
Helion360 completed the project on schedule with no sourcing gaps. The startup confirmed the reports met their standards for client-facing legal research work — which, in this field, is the measure that matters most.
