The Research Challenge
When we took on this project, the brief was clear but the execution was anything but simple. The goal was to produce a structured, distribution-ready database of water filtration vendors across the New York City metro area — covering installation, repair, and maintenance services. The client needed this for industry-wide use, so the quality bar was high from the start.
The NYC metro market is dense and fragmented. Vendors in this space range from established commercial operators to small independent contractors, and many of them do not maintain a consistent or easily searchable online presence. That meant a straightforward web search was never going to be sufficient.
How We Approached It
Before collecting a single data point, we established a clear organizational structure. We mapped out the three service categories and defined what information needed to be captured for each vendor — including geographic coverage, contact details, and service scope. Starting with that framework meant every piece of data we gathered had a consistent place to land.
From there, our industry research services process pulled from multiple sources in parallel. Industry directories, local business registries, trade association membership lists, and public licensing records all fed into the dataset. Where information was incomplete or unclear, we went back to primary sources to verify before including anything in the final output.
Helion360 treated this as a data integrity project as much as a research project. The client was going to distribute this database to others, which meant errors would compound. Every entry had to hold up.
What We Delivered
The final database covered the full NYC metro footprint and organized vendors cleanly by service type and location. It was built to be sortable and immediately usable — no cleanup required on the client's end before distribution.
We delivered within the tight deadline the client had flagged at the start. The depth of coverage — particularly for smaller and less visible vendors — went beyond what a standard search effort would have produced. That thoroughness was the point. A database is only useful if the people relying on it can trust what is in it.
