The Research Challenge
When a Bhutan-based NGO approached us, they were at a critical planning stage. Their work spanned environmental sustainability, community development, and social welfare — but they had no consolidated research base to guide programming decisions. They needed both primary and secondary research conducted in parallel, with findings that were practical enough to drive action.
The geographic and cultural specificity of Bhutan made this more than a standard desk research project. Understanding local community dynamics required direct engagement, while the secondary review needed to navigate a relatively limited pool of region-specific data sources.
Our Approach
Helion360 structured the engagement around two parallel research tracks from the outset. The secondary research involved a rigorous desk review — drawing from government publications, development agency reports, academic studies, and policy documents relevant to Bhutan's environmental and social landscape.
The primary research track was built around the NGO's specific knowledge gaps. We designed data collection instruments suited to community-level engagement and gathered original perspectives that existing literature could not provide. This included identifying where services were absent, where community needs were unmet, and where existing programs were falling short.
Once both tracks were complete, we synthesized the findings across all three thematic areas into structured reports. Each report was written to inform decisions — not just describe data.
What Was Delivered
The final deliverables gave the NGO a clear, evidence-backed picture of conditions across all three focus areas. The reports highlighted current trends, documented service gaps, and integrated community voices into findings that were otherwise missing from available secondary sources.
The research provided the organization with a practical foundation for planning future programs, prioritizing resources, and communicating its work to stakeholders. Everything delivered by Helion360 was framed around the client's operational reality — specific, credible, and ready to use.
