The Research Challenge
Understanding a niche residential market requires more than a survey. When our client set out to explore smart home adoption among condominium residents and owners in Cavite, Philippines, they needed real conversations — not checkbox data. The challenge was sourcing the right participants, earning their trust, and structuring interviews that would surface honest, actionable insight.
Cavite's condo market is specific. Residents here have particular expectations around urban living, technology, and community, and those expectations don't map neatly onto national or regional generalizations. The client needed ground-level intelligence from verified residents and owners, gathered through direct dialogue.
Our Approach
Helion360 built a participant sourcing strategy tailored to the geographic and demographic scope of this project. We focused on community-level channels to identify and verify condo residents and owners in Cavite, prioritizing quality of contact over volume. Each participant was confirmed before being brought into the interview process.
Interviews were conducted via phone and video call, with the format adapted to each participant's availability and preference. Our interview framework explored three consistent themes: how participants currently use smart home technology, the day-to-day challenges they experience within their units, and what improvements they would realistically want to see. Sessions were designed to feel like open conversations, which led to richer, less guarded responses.
What the Research Revealed
Across the participant pool, we found a range of smart home adoption stages — from residents using basic automation features to those with no current usage but clear curiosity about what the technology could offer them. Common friction points included inconsistent connectivity, limited control over shared building infrastructure, and uncertainty about cost and installation. Feature interest was concentrated around energy monitoring, remote access, and security applications.
These findings gave the client a textured understanding of where their target audience currently stands and where genuine demand exists. The data was organized into a structured summary, and an initial list of participants open to continued engagement was provided alongside it.
