Storyboards drawn for visual impressiveness but lacking motion annotations leave animators making structural decisions that belong to the director — and inconsistencies show up in the final cut.
Color drift across a multi-scene animation is subtler but damaging. When hex values are not locked in a shared swatch library at the start of the project, slight variations accumulate scene by scene. By the final export, the brand blue in scene 1 and scene 12 may be visibly different — a detail that undermines the professional feel of an otherwise well-executed piece.
Underestimating rendering and revision time is another consistent trap. A 60-second animation in After Effects with moderate complexity can take 4–8 hours to render at full quality on a standard workstation. Revision cycles that seem minor — "just change the text on the third scene" — can require re-rendering 20–30 seconds of dependent downstream content.
Finally, audio mixing is often left to the last hour of a project. Voiceover, background music, and sound effects each need separate gain staging — typically voiceover at –6 dB, music bed at –18 to –20 dB, and spot sound effects at –10 to –12 dB — so the mix feels professional on both speakers and headphones.
