Over-relying on Image Trace is the second major pitfall. Illustrator's automatic tracing produces files that are technically vector but practically unusable for complex crests — path counts in the thousands, overlapping fills, and anchor point clusters that make any future editing nearly impossible. The file size alone (often 5-10MB for what should be a 150KB SVG) signals the problem.
Color inconsistency compounds across a campaign faster than most people expect. If the crest is vectorized with a navy swatch defined differently from the navy in the presentation template (even by a small RGB value difference), the two assets will visibly clash on screen. Defining brand colors globally in a shared swatch library — and enforcing that library across every file in the campaign — prevents this.
