The diagram type should be chosen by the logic of the underlying idea, not by what looks visually interesting. An educational audience trying to absorb new information does not have spare attention for visual puzzles.
Animation as Emphasis, Not Entertainment
When animation is used, it should reveal information in the order it needs to be understood. A process diagram with five steps should appear one step at a time — each with a simple Appear or Fade entrance at 0.3 seconds — so the presenter and the content stay synchronized. Dropping all five steps on screen simultaneously forces the audience to read ahead and stops listening. That single animation decision, applied across a training deck, meaningfully improves comprehension without adding visual noise.
What Goes Wrong When This Work Is Rushed
One of the most common problems is skipping the content architecture phase and jumping straight into slide production. The resulting deck tends to have a slide for every idea rather than a structure that carries ideas from one to the next. Viewers finish knowing they were shown a lot — but cannot reconstruct the logic.
Another frequent issue is font and color drift across a multi-slide deck.
