A complete vector logo package typically includes the working .ai source file (or .afdesign), an .eps file for legacy compatibility with older vendor workflows, an SVG file for web and digital use, and a .pdf for general-purpose sharing. Beyond that, rasterized exports at 300 DPI in .png (with transparent background) and .jpg should accompany the vector files for contexts — social media, email, slide decks — where vector formats are not natively supported.
A consistent naming convention prevents chaos when assets multiply. A reasonable pattern: BrandName_Logo_PrimaryColor_v1.ai, BrandName_Logo_White_v1.svg, BrandName_Logo_Black_v1.eps. Including color variant and version in the filename means anyone pulling from the folder immediately knows what they are working with.
For SVG specifically, the file should be exported with "Responsive" unchecked and explicit width/height attributes preserved. An SVG without fixed dimensions will scale unpredictably in some web environments, defeating the purpose of the format.
What Goes Wrong When Vector Logo Work Is Done Carelessly
The most common failure is treating the logo as finished once it looks good on a white background at screen resolution. It is not. A logo that has not been tested against dark backgrounds, at thumbnail scale (16×16 px favicon range), and in single-color form has not actually been stress-tested.

Using a commercial typeface in a logo without confirming that the license covers logo/branding use — as opposed to personal desktop use — creates legal exposure. Converting type to outlines resolves the rendering issue but does not resolve the licensing question. The right answer is to confirm the license first, then outline.
Over-reliance on effects and appearance overrides is another structural problem. Illustrator's Appearance panel allows stacking multiple strokes, fills, and effects on a single object without expanding them. A logo built with live effects looks correct inside Illustrator but can export incorrectly to EPS or render unpredictably in older software. The rule is: expand all appearances before final delivery.
Finally, skipping the logo usage guide — even a simple one-page reference showing minimum size (typically no smaller than 1 inch or 72px wide), clear space rules (often equal to the cap height of the wordmark on all sides), and do-not-do examples — means the logo will be misused almost immediately. The file is only half the deliverable.
