When One Weak Section Undermines the Whole Presentation

That one section — the one with mismatched layouts, walls of unformatted text, or navigation that simply does not work — is what audiences remember. It breaks the visual rhythm, signals carelessness, and can undermine the credibility of everything that came before it.
This problem comes up more often than most people expect. A deck gets built incrementally, with different people contributing different slides at different times. By the time it reaches a final review, certain sections have drifted far from the original design system. The fonts are off, the spacing is inconsistent, the layout feels improvised, and interactive elements like hyperlinks or chapter-jump navigation either do not exist or do not function reliably.
Fixing this kind of structural problem is not as simple as reformatting a few slides. Done properly, it means rebuilding that section on a foundation of custom slide templates, a coherent layout grid, and properly wired interactive elements — so that the section not only looks right but behaves right during a live presentation or self-navigated review.

What Goes Wrong When This Work Is Rushed

A designer who reformats 12 slides individually will produce 12 slides that each look slightly different from one another — different top margins, slightly different font weights, colors that are visually close but not identical. Viewed on a projector or in a client PDF, these micro-inconsistencies read as sloppiness.
A second failure mode is treating placeholder deletion as harmless. Once a title placeholder is deleted and replaced with a text box, the slide is no longer governed by the master. Any future theme changes or font updates stop propagating to that slide, which means the section drifts again the moment someone else touches the file.
Interactive elements are also consistently underestimated. A hyperlink that works in Normal view may fail in Presenter view or when the file is exported to PDF. Testing navigation only in Edit mode, rather than running a full Slide Show test, catches nothing. A deck sent to a stakeholder with broken chapter links is a presentation that looks unfinished regardless of how strong the content is.
Finally, there is the gap between "looks fine on my screen" and "ships correctly." Color profiles that appear consistent in PowerPoint can shift when the file is exported as a PDF or displayed on a different monitor.
