Understanding what separates a legitimate PSD to vector EPS conversion from a cosmetic one is the first real hurdle. A genuine vector conversion means every shape, letterform, and graphic element in the logo has been redrawn or translated into native vector paths — not simply placed as a linked or embedded raster image inside Illustrator.
The work requires a thorough understanding of both file formats. Select individual paths and confirm they are simple, closed shapes without hundreds of stray nodes. Run Object > Path > Clean Up to remove stray points, empty text objects, and unpainted objects. What Goes Wrong When the Work Is Rushed
The most common failure is delivering a rasterized EPS — the logo image is embedded inside the EPS wrapper rather than redrawn as paths. It looks identical on screen but fails the moment a vendor tries to scale or separate it. A simple check: open the file in Illustrator and try to select individual shapes. If everything selects as one uneditable image block, the file is rasterized, not vectorized.
Skipping the color audit is the second major failure point. A logo converted to CMYK without properly handling spot color definitions will reproduce inconsistently across different printers. Pantone 186 C is a very specific red; its CMYK simulation is not.
