The Problem With Their Existing Models
The financial planning firm had accumulated years of patchwork spreadsheets — each built at different times, by different hands, with no shared logic or consistent structure. When market conditions shifted or internal assumptions changed, updating the models meant manually reworking multiple files. The margin for error was high, and the time cost was significant.
Presenting findings to senior stakeholders added another layer of friction. The outputs were technically accurate but not designed for communication. Every reporting cycle required manual formatting and reformatting — work that pulled the finance team away from actual analysis.
Building a Framework That Could Scale
Helion360 approached this engagement by first understanding how the models were being used — and where they were breaking down. We mapped the full data flow from raw inputs to stakeholder outputs, then designed a new modelling architecture from the ground up.
The framework separated input assumptions, calculation logic, and presentation outputs into distinct layers. This meant that when a single variable changed — an interest rate, a tax assumption, a revenue projection — the entire model updated cleanly without manual intervention. We also built in Excel VBA automation for the most repetitive processing tasks, reducing manual touchpoints and the errors that come with them.
Scenario planning was built in from the start. The models supported base case, upside, and stress-test scenarios simultaneously, giving the planning team a practical tool for responding to real business conditions rather than a static snapshot.
What the Client Walked Away With
The final deliverable was a fully interconnected suite of Excel models covering financial projections, cash flow forecasting, and multi-scenario analysis — all structured around Australian financial planning requirements. The outputs were clean, presentation-ready, and built so the internal team could maintain and update them independently.
Reporting that had previously taken days was compressed into hours. The finance team no longer needed to reconstruct outputs for stakeholder meetings — those summaries were already embedded in the model structure.
Working With Helion360
If your financial models have outgrown the way they were originally built, Helion360 has the technical depth to rebuild them properly. We work across complex modelling engagements and know what it takes to deliver tools that hold up under real-world use.
