The Problem With the Existing Model
Financial models tend to accumulate complexity quietly. What starts as a clean spreadsheet gets extended, patched, and adjusted until the logic is buried under layers of hard-coded values and workaround formulas. That was exactly the situation we walked into.
The model in question was functional — but only barely. Outputs were unreliable when inputs changed, conditional logic was either missing or inconsistently applied, and no one on the team could trace errors back to their source with any confidence. The business was making decisions based on a tool they weren't fully able to trust.
Our Approach to Rebuilding the Logic
Helion360 began with a full structural audit. Before writing a single new formula, we mapped every dependency in the model — identifying where logic had drifted, where values should have been dynamic but weren't, and where formula errors were silently propagating.
Once we understood the architecture, we rebuilt the conditional logic using advanced SWITCH functions and restructured nested IFs to make scenario-switching clean and reliable. This wasn't about applying a template — it was about understanding how the business actually used the model and making sure the formulas reflected that.
Where repetitive logic created opportunities for error, we introduced VBA macros to automate the process. Each macro was tested across a range of input scenarios before it was considered complete.
What the Rebuilt Model Delivered
The updated model handled scenario changes cleanly. Switching between assumptions produced the correct outputs every time, and the logic was structured clearly enough that the client's team could follow it without documentation in hand.
Audit time dropped because the formula chains were no longer tangled. The VBA automation removed manual steps that had previously introduced risk. The team took ownership of the model immediately — which was the goal from the start.
Working With Helion360
If your financial model has grown harder to trust than it is to use, Helion360 is ready to step in. We've done this kind of work before — auditing complex Excel models, rebuilding conditional logic, and delivering something the team can actually rely on. See how we built automated financial models for real-world business needs.
