The Research Challenge
Auckland's accommodation market is large, varied, and constantly changing. The client needed a single, reliable database covering hotels, motels, and other lodging businesses across the region — but the data they had was scattered, outdated, and full of gaps. Their customers depended on this information, so anything inaccurate or incomplete created real problems downstream.
The real difficulty was not just gathering names and addresses. Contact details go stale, websites move or disappear, and business names change without notice. Building a database that would actually hold up under use required more than a basic web scrape — it required a disciplined verification process applied to every single record.
Our Approach to Building the Database
Helion360 began by scoping the full Auckland accommodation landscape — identifying business categories, geographic coverage, and the minimum data fields required for each record to be useful. We worked across multiple source types, cross-referencing official directories, Google Business listings, and individual business websites to confirm that what we were capturing was current and correct.
Rather than collecting data in bulk and cleaning it later, we applied quality checks at the point of entry. Each listing — business name, address, phone, email, and website — was validated before it was added to the master file. Where information was unclear or missing, we traced it back to primary sources rather than leaving placeholders.
The final database was structured as a clean, sortable spreadsheet organized by business type and location. The client's team could filter, export, and update it without needing to reformat anything.
What We Delivered
The completed database contained over 500 verified Auckland accommodation listings, covering the full range from major hotel chains to independent motels and smaller lodging operations across the wider region. Every record was confirmed accurate against live sources before delivery.
The client received the file ready to use on day one. No corrections, no reformatting, no gaps to chase down. The structure was designed to slot directly into their existing workflow, making it immediately operational rather than a starting point for further cleanup.
Delivery came in on schedule, and the client's feedback highlighted that the accuracy and depth of coverage went beyond what their internal team had managed in earlier attempts at the same task.
