The Research Problem Behind the Project
Building a business database sounds straightforward until you actually start. In the trades sector across Auckland — covering electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, builders, and general contractors — the available data is fragmented. Listings appear across dozens of directories, many of which are out of date, inconsistently formatted, or full of duplicates. The client needed more than 500 verified entries, structured for CRM integration, and ready to use without additional cleanup.
That is a meaningful quality bar. Meeting it required a methodology, not just a spreadsheet.
How We Approached the Work
Helion360 structured this as a parallel research operation across multiple verified source types. We pulled from Google Business Profiles, trade association registers, regional council directories, and industry-specific listing sites. Rather than aggregating everything and cleaning it later, we filtered for quality at the point of collection.
Every entry went through a cross-referencing process against at least two independent sources before it was accepted into the master dataset. Businesses with incomplete or conflicting information were resolved individually. We categorized each entry by trade type and service scope — residential, commercial, or both — so the data would be immediately usable rather than requiring interpretation after delivery.
The final Google Sheet was structured to match the client's existing CRM field layout, which meant no reformatting was needed on their end.
What Was Delivered
The completed dataset contained over 500 verified Auckland trades businesses. Each record included the business name, primary phone number, email address where publicly available, website URL, and a categorized service type. The file was formatted for direct import into the client's CRM system.
Delivery came in ahead of the client's quarter-end deadline, which was a firm constraint from the start. The client was able to begin outreach within days of receiving the final dataset — no additional processing required.
