What Goes Wrong When Templates Are Built Quickly
The most common failure is building the template in the normal slide view rather than in the Slide Master view. Changes made at the slide level do not propagate; they create one-off overrides that accumulate and eventually corrupt the file's visual logic. After a few months of use, the template is no longer a system — it is a collection of individual slides with inconsistent formatting.
A second frequent problem is leaving the Office default theme colors active. Even if the slide background and text look correct, any chart or diagram inserted by a user will default to the Office palette — blues, oranges, and greens that have nothing to do with the brand. This is a silent inconsistency that is easy to miss during QA and very visible in a finished deck.
Font drift is another recurring issue. That final pass routinely takes as long as the initial build.
Finally, distributing the template without governance almost guarantees drift. A template file without a clear version number, a named owner, and a designated distribution channel will be modified locally by individual users and the organization will end up with multiple conflicting versions within a quarter.
