The Challenge
A client in the early stages of launching a new GIS-powered graphic design service needed expert help converting raw spatial datasets from ArcMap into polished, professional-grade visuals. The complexity here went beyond standard graphic design — the work required a genuine understanding of geographic information systems, spatial data relationships, and cartographic principles, all while maintaining a high visual standard that would stand up to client-facing and publication-ready use. The client needed outputs that were not only technically accurate but also aesthetically compelling and intuitive for end users unfamiliar with GIS environments. Bridging the gap between data science and design craft is rarely straightforward, and doing so within a new service framework — without established templates or precedents — added another layer of complexity.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by conducting a thorough audit of the existing ArcMap figures and datasets to understand the scope, coordinate systems, and visual hierarchy requirements of each output. The team worked closely with the client to define the intended audience and use cases for the final graphics, ensuring every design decision served both clarity and function. Spatial data was processed and refined within ArcGIS, with careful attention to layer management, symbology, and classification schemes that would translate well into the final graphic format. Map compositions were developed with deliberate attention to color theory, typographic hierarchy, and layout structure — ensuring that geographic accuracy and visual impact coexisted without compromise. Where applicable, supporting infographic elements and data callouts were designed to contextualise the spatial information and reduce the cognitive load on the viewer.
The Outcome
The engagement produced a suite of high-quality spatial visualizations derived directly from the client's ArcMap datasets, including finalized map graphics and supporting infographic elements ready for client presentation and service deployment. Each output was delivered in formats suitable for both digital use and high-resolution print, giving the client flexibility across channels. The visual system established during this project provided the client with a replicable design framework for their emerging GIS graphic design service — reducing turnaround time on future projects and setting a consistent quality benchmark across deliverables.
Helion360 brings the same disciplined approach to every data visualization engagement — combining domain awareness with design precision to produce outputs that communicate clearly and look exceptional.
