The Challenge
When a software team prepares to launch on both mobile and desktop platforms simultaneously, visual consistency becomes a high-stakes challenge. The client needed three distinct yet unified icon assets — a brand logo, an App Store icon, and a Mac toolbar icon — all designed to feel cohesive while respecting the very different display environments each platform demands. App Store icons must pop at thumbnail scale with bold visual hierarchy, while Mac toolbar icons require restraint and precision at small pixel sizes. Designing all three under a single brand language, within a two-week window, and without prior established brand guidelines meant the project required both strategic design thinking and a sharp eye for detail.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by conducting a thorough discovery process — reviewing the client's product features, target user base, and competitive landscape to identify the visual tone that would best represent the brand. Rather than treating each icon as a standalone asset, the team developed a unified design language first: defining the core shape vocabulary, color palette, and iconographic style that would carry across all three deliverables. The logo mark served as the foundation, with its primary form adapted and optimized for the App Store icon's larger canvas and then further refined into a minimal, recognizable glyph for the Mac toolbar context. Each iteration was tested at actual display sizes to ensure legibility and visual impact were never compromised by scale. Multiple concept rounds were presented with clear rationale, and client feedback was incorporated through a structured revision cycle to keep the project on schedule.
The Outcome
The final deliverable was a complete, production-ready icon system — comprising the master logo, a fully optimized App Store icon meeting Apple's current submission specifications, and a crisp Mac toolbar icon rendered at all required resolutions. The three assets maintained a consistent visual identity while each performing appropriately within its native platform context. The client received export files in all necessary formats and sizes, ready for immediate submission and deployment. The design system established through this project also gave the team a reusable visual foundation for future brand touchpoints.
Helion360 regularly supports software teams and product studios facing multi-platform launch timelines where brand consistency and technical precision must go hand in hand.
