The Challenge
An emerging esports company came to us with an ambitious creative brief: build a brand identity that could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the most recognizable names in sports and gaming media. The client wanted a visual language that fused ESPN's polished, authoritative broadcast aesthetic with Twitch's raw, community-driven energy — all filtered through the bold, kinetic design sensibilities native to competitive gaming culture. The challenge was not simply stylistic. Striking that balance without tipping into imitation on one side or chaos on the other required a precise understanding of both reference worlds, combined with original creative thinking that would make the new brand feel wholly distinct and ownable.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by conducting a deep visual audit of both ESPN and Twitch's design systems — studying their typographic hierarchies, color logic, motion language, and UI patterns — before identifying the specific tension points between them that could be resolved into something new. Rather than blending the two brands superficially, the team isolated what made each of them effective for their audience: ESPN's structured confidence and Twitch's participatory immediacy. From that foundation, the design direction was built around a typographic system that felt broadcast-grade but with the angular aggression common in esports visual culture. The color palette was anchored in deep, high-contrast tones with accent colors chosen to read well across both dark-mode digital environments and lit broadcast graphics. Logo exploration prioritized mark-based scalability so the identity would perform equally well as a stream overlay, jersey embroidery, or arena display. Brand guidelines were developed to cover typography, color usage, iconography, and spatial rules — ensuring any future designer or partner could extend the identity without diluting it. Website layout direction followed the same energy: immersive, fast-paced, and structured around the viewing habits of a competitive gaming audience.
The Outcome
The engagement delivered a complete brand identity system — including a primary logo with variants, a full set of brand guidelines, and a high-fidelity website layout — built to launch an esports company with immediate visual credibility. The final identity reads as dynamic and high-production without borrowing too heavily from any single reference, giving the client a brand that feels both familiar to gaming audiences and genuinely original. The brand guidelines document ensured the system was immediately actionable for the client's internal team and any downstream vendors.
If you are building an esports or gaming brand that needs to command attention from day one, Helion360 delivers identities designed to compete at the highest visual level.
