The Challenge
The client needed a cohesive collection of retro-inspired spaceship designs that bridged two distinct disciplines: three-dimensional modeling and old-school vector illustration. The brief called for a strong visual language rooted in classic 80s and 90s sci-fi aesthetics — angular hulls, worn paneling, and the kind of chunky, analog-feeling geometry that defined that era. Producing work that authentically captured that period while remaining technically precise and high-resolution presented a dual challenge. The assets needed to function both as standalone 3D renders and as vector wireframe illustrations, meaning every design decision had to hold up across two entirely different output formats without losing its aesthetic coherence.
Our Approach
The Helion360 team began by establishing a visual reference framework grounded in classic sci-fi concept art, retro arcade game assets, and early CG film production design. This foundation guided every modeling decision, ensuring that proportions, surface detail, and silhouette all read as authentically period-accurate. Each spaceship was built in 3D with careful attention to low-polygon sensibility and hard-surface details that evoke the mechanical nostalgia of that era. Once the 3D forms were finalized, the team translated each design into companion vector wireframe illustrations, using clean linework, hatching conventions, and isometric-style framing that echoed the technical drawings found in vintage sci-fi manuals and game packaging. The two output formats were developed in parallel so that decisions made in one directly informed the other, maintaining consistency across the full collection.
The Outcome
The final deliverable was a complete collection of high-resolution retro spaceship designs, each presented in both a fully rendered 3D format and a companion old-style vector wireframe. The assets were production-ready, packaged at high resolution with all source files included for both the 3D models and the vector artwork. The collection delivered strong visual consistency across every design in the set, with each piece unmistakably part of the same aesthetic universe while remaining distinct enough to stand on its own. The client received a versatile creative asset library suitable for use across print, digital, game development, and promotional contexts.
Helion360 brings the same level of craft and aesthetic intentionality to creative asset projects of all kinds — from technical illustration to branded visual collections.
