The Challenge
A women's apparel entrepreneur came to us with a clear aesthetic vision but a difficult design brief to execute: she wanted a t-shirt collection that felt simultaneously vintage and modern, playfully feminine without being cliché, and warm enough to resonate with women who gravitate toward cozy, coquette-inspired fashion. The challenge wasn't simply illustrating something pretty — it was capturing a very specific emotional register. The designs needed to evoke a soft, nostalgic charm while still feeling fresh and wearable in today's market. Striking that balance between whimsy and sophistication, between retro sensibility and contemporary appeal, required both a strong visual instinct and a disciplined design process.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by conducting a thorough style exploration rooted in the coquette aesthetic — a fashion-forward movement defined by bows, soft florals, muted pastels, and delicate typography. The team studied vintage illustration techniques from mid-century fashion plates and cross-referenced them with current D2C apparel trends to establish a design direction that felt timeless rather than trendy. Mood boards were developed and reviewed with the client before any illustration work began, ensuring alignment on colour palette, motif vocabulary, and overall tone.
From there, original illustrations were created by hand before being refined digitally — soft floral arrangements, playful feminine motifs, and subtle decorative flourishes that could sit beautifully on garment fabric without losing detail. Typography was treated as part of the illustration itself rather than an afterthought, with lettering styles chosen to complement the vintage warmth of the visual elements. Each design was reviewed across mockup formats to confirm real-world wearability and print viability.
The Outcome
The final deliverables included a cohesive set of print-ready t-shirt graphic designs that captured the coquette aesthetic with precision — soft, inviting, and distinctly feminine without feeling overdone. Each design was prepared in high-resolution formats suitable for screen printing and direct-to-garment production, with clean layered files handed off for manufacturing flexibility. The client received a collection that felt genuinely cohesive as a line, with enough variation between pieces to serve different styling preferences within the same target audience. The designs were positioned to resonate strongly with women who value playful, personality-driven fashion — giving the brand a strong visual identity to launch with.
Helion360 works closely with apparel founders and D2C brands to translate aesthetic visions into print-ready graphic designs that hold up in the real world. If you have a collection concept that needs the right creative hand, we'd be glad to help.
