The Challenge
Montana Wild needed a logo that could do more than just look attractive on packaging — it had to communicate an entire brand ethos in a single glance. The client was entering a competitive premium protein snack market with biltong and jerky products aimed at health-conscious consumers who value authenticity, clean ingredients, and a connection to the natural world. The challenge was balancing two design tensions that don't always coexist easily: the rugged, nostalgic character of Montana's wild west heritage and the clean, minimalistic aesthetic expected of a modern premium food brand. Generic wilderness motifs were not enough — the logo had to feel earned, specific, and memorable on shelf.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by mapping the brand's core identity across four axes: bold and eye-catching, rustic and nostalgic, clean and minimal, and authentically natural. Rather than defaulting to a predictable antler-and-mountain cliché, the team explored how Montana's landscape and wild-west heritage could be interpreted through confident typography, raw textures, and a restrained but striking color palette. Rough sketches provided by the client served as directional input, not constraints — they helped ground the early concepts in the client's vision while leaving room to push toward something more refined. The final design approach fused a strong wordmark with a bespoke icon that evokes open wilderness without overcrowding the composition, ensuring the logo would scale cleanly across packaging formats, labels, and digital surfaces. Natural earthy tones were selected to reinforce the all-natural product promise while maintaining visual impact at retail scale.
The Outcome
The completed logo for Montana Wild delivers a visual identity that feels simultaneously timeless and fresh — rooted in the heritage the brand draws its name from, yet designed to perform in the modern CPG market. The mark translates well across primary packaging for biltong and jerky products, communicating premium quality and natural provenance at a single glance. The design system established through this logo gives Montana Wild a strong foundation to build out labels, packaging variants, and brand collateral with visual consistency.
